My love for fragrances...

As I sit here in my home, creating a new fragrance for a client I started to think about how and why this love for mixing fragrances came from...

I knew from a young age that I loved “mixing“ things. Could have been
“stirring the gravy“ in my nan’s Victorian kitchen or blending the "hot toddy" In my uncle ‘s off license (bottle shop), he always had brewing for customers on the town of St Ives, Cornwall.

I was always making mud pies in the back garden and you would often find me out the front of the house with my homemade lavender lemonade that I would mix...

I loved it all.

Quite a few years ago we were supplying organic skincare to the
Shangri La Hotel in the Maldives. The spa curator asked me to formulate the essences for the Spa. They needed fragrances for the front reception as well as infused greeting and departure towels. I gladely accepted the offer and this was the beginning of my journey to become “a nose” (the term used for a Master Parfumer).

As I discovered a new passion for creating fragrances I went on to study the first ever offered degree in the pharmacy of natural fragrance at NYU

Fast forward to today and I have, along with our organic skin care,  a natural perfumery.

After meeting with a client to talk about a personal bespoke fragrance, I was once again mixing aloe, dropping in resinous Vetiver, shaking the Elixir until incorporated, adding the oil...
Love it ..
Mesmerising as it all is there is a “science“ to it all. Something that has now been part of my life for over 30 years.

In the past, my studio in the Southern Highlands was where the alchemy evolved. Today my home overlooks the beach at Kingscliff. The salt air and sea breezes evoke completely new concept.

My meeting with my client overlooking the Duranbah Headland was so thorough a brief, that I was inspired to work with an Elixir I had formulated a year ago when I arrived in the Northern Rivers area of NSW, that potion referenced the coast and just needed a tweak...

For me a fragrance needs to be a reflection of who you are, personal and soulful. On presentation of the fragrance, I was sure that the essence of this fragrance would resonate with her on all levels...

Joy oh joy , she loved it...
As she applied the fragrance to her wrist, she got "goose bumps" and the biggest smile on her face. What a true and beautiful indicator that this was the right fragrance for her!

Days later, I received many messages of happiness.

A heartfelt fulfilment for me ❣️

Now back to the drawing board to create a “Homme“ version...
